The VPH Institute will be signing up to a position paper on the Data Protection Regulation endorsed by a range of health stakeholders in Brussels and spearheaded by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
ESMO represents over 7000 medical oncologists from over 120 countries and since the first publication of the Data Protection Regulation have been active in promoting the needs of health researchers in this legislation.
VPHi in the past has also endorsed amendments supported by ESMO that would take into account the concerns of those engaged in health research.
The endorsement of this position paper presents another opportunity to show solidarity among the healthcare community.
VPH and ESMO will be in communication over the coming weeks to coordinate activities and ensure by adding the weight of the VPH PAWG to the efforts, that the European Commission, Council and Parliament are all made aware of the desperate need to ensure that in the pursuit of better data privacy for individual citizens, we do not endanger the health of all European citizens.
