Membrane transporters mediate the cellular entry and efflux of a variety of compounds. The pharmaceutical field has placed particular effort on studying membrane transporters of clinical relevance, meaning those that impact drug efficacy or toxicity. As a result, an enormous body of literature currently exists for these "drug transporters". Besides animal testing, relevant data on drug transporters were obtained using alternative methods (in vitro/in silico).
The aim of the survey is to capture the current use and applicability of the extensive available literature on membrane transporters for safety assessment of environmental contaminants such as pesticides, manufactured chemicals, cosmetics ingredients.. (also considering transporter-mediated drug-contaminant interaction) and for biomedical research with a view of identifying and promoting the use of animal-free methods.
Your contribution will be extremely valuable.
