Both the fundamentals and the latest developments in the field were presented through an invited lecture delivered by Georgios Stamatakos PhD, Research Professor at the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (SECE), National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, Director of the In Silico Oncology and In Silico Medicine Group, ICCS-SECE-NTUA, and Visiting Professor at the Medical School, University of Saarland, Germany. The title of his lecture was "In Silico Oncology: Building and Validating Oncosimulators and Oncosimulator Based Hypermodels as Clinical Decision Support Systems."

The event was clinically enhanced by Norbert Graf, MD, Professor of Paediatric Oncology and Haematology at the Medical School of the University of Saarland (USAAR), Germany, Director of the Paediatric Oncology and Hematology Clinic, USAAR, and Chairman of the Renal Tumour Study Group of the International Society for Paediatric Oncology (SIOP- RTSG).

The stimulating and multidisciplinary discussion that followed reflected the growing global interest in the new domain of in silico oncology/in silico medicine from both the scientific and the technological perspectives in conjunction with its potential for future industrial exploitation.
