The meeting has been held in Bologna on the 8 November 2022 with the participation of medical doctors, in silico trials researchers, ethical and legal experts, patients, and industry representatives.
In the scope of the In Silico World project, the VPH Institute with the University of Bologna and KU Leuven, organised a focus group to discuss the many aspects related to in silico trials, including the ethical, legal, societal, and medical ones.
The focus group gathered a mixed composition of medical doctors, in silico trials researchers, ethical and legal experts, patients, and industry representatives.
Following hypothetical use cases, the participants discussed and expressed their opinions or concerns about different aspects concerning in silico trials and their impact. Some of the most discussed issues are related to the regulatory pathways of in silico trials, AI transparency and its meaning in the doctor-patient relationship, which validation methodologies are available and what is needed, and many more.
This focus group was the Italian edition and second in the series of interdisciplinary discussions that will contribute to the Responsible Research and Innovation strategy the VPH Institute is developing in the In Silico World project.
