European Parliament publishes report on eHealth

The European Parliament has published its Draft Report on the eHealth Action Plan 2012-2020. The non-legislative, own initiative report is a response to the Commission Communication on the eHealth Action Plan, in which VPH is specifically mentioned.

In order to prepare for the publication of this report, VPH hosted a parliamentary event on 26 June this year to stress the need for support for, inter alia, in silico medicine.

The Draft Report calls for:

  • Increased training for healthcare professionals in the use of new eHealth technologies;
  • More cooperation between Member States in the establishment of an “eHealth network”;
  • Improving interoperability of health systems;

Now that the Draft Report has been published, the policy affairs working group will be working closely with MEPs who have been supportive of the goals of VPH in the past, to ensure that in silico medicine is specifically mentioned in the text.

An exchange of views on this Draft Report will take place in the European Parliament’s Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee (ENVI) on 10 October 2013.

The full report can be found here.
