ERC publishes Advanced Grant Calls

The ERC has launched its annual call for proposals for Advanced Grants. These grants are awarded based on the perceived value of the application and the credentials of the applicant.

The European Research Council (ERC) is funded under Horizon 2020, the 8th EU Framework for Research and Innovation.

The ERC is known for funding “frontier or basic research". A common complaint of the previous research framework programme was that FP7 was too “anti-trust” and “risk-averse” when it came to granting research funding and tracking its progress once funding has been provided.

The ERC is seen largely as one of the groups that tries to emulate the concept of being pro-trust and risk-tolerant by having the sole requirement for a positive application to be proof of “excellence in science” and has a known bias for proposals that incorporate a range of different scientific disciplines.

The ERC funding for Advanced Grants is 630 Million Euro for 2015.

The deadline for applications is 02 June 2015.
