The Scientific Council plays a major role in developing the ERC’s work programme, its implementation and accordingly in the funding calls included within. In light
of this, the ERC follows a bottom-up approach which supports academics in their research advancements rather than being influenced by political goals. This encourages funding that is directed toward new and promising research areas, such as computer modelling
and simulation.
