European Commission President calls for a doubling of research budget
During his speech in the Parliament in Strasbourg on 14 March, EC President Jean-Claude Juncker advocated for doubling the seven-year spending on research from €77 billion to €160 billion after 2020 so that “the EU would become one of the world’s leading players in research and innovation”. A similar call has been made by a large coalition of universities.

Bilateral declarations on accelerating digitalisation of European industry
On 27 March, the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) signed two declarations with the European Factories of the Future Research Association (EFFRA) and the Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI) respectively to join forces towards accelerating the digitalisation of the European industry.
