The MultiSim/OATech+ Modelathon is a one-day symposium (free of charge) followed by a three-day modelling competition on combining experimental and computational research on multi-scale approaches to patient- specific musculoskeletal and finite element modelling. The event will take place from Monday to Thursday, 13-16 January 2020 at the Diamond Building, University of Sheffield (U.K.) and it is dedicate to researchers in bio-mechanics, computational modelling or image based solutions.
Symposium programme
The symposium on day 1 explores Experimental and computational approaches to optimise the treatment of osteoarthritis
Through expert keynotes, a round-table discussion, and three-minute-researcher presentations we will explore cutting-edge research on how new potential treatments are being tested, evaluated and optimised by using a combination of experimental and multi-scale computational, models and methods.
Multi-scale Modelling competition
The competition is based on the concept of a hackathon where different teams work on a challenging problem to ‘hack’ computer code. This event, however, uses ‘modelling’ and ‘simulation’ rather than ‘hacking’.
The multi-scale modelling competition on days 2-4 includes leading companies** such as: Ansys, Dassault Systemes, Synopsys, and Materialise who will provide hands-on support by sending an expert for the duration of the event to ensure participants utilise their company’s software to its full potential in a competitive environment. The event is powered by Google Cloud.

Fee scheme
Day 1 is free for internal and external participants
Day 2-4: £180 for external participants. Costs include 3 nights accommodation and all meals.
Day 2-4: £40 for internal participants. Costs excluding accommodation and breakfasts.
This event is endorsed by the European Society for Biomechanics (ESB), whose members will receive a 20% discount.
