2019 VPH Summer School

The 4th VPH Summer School will take place in Barcelona (Spain) from 10 to 14 June 2019.

The VPH Summer School series is co-organized by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and by the Virtual Physiological Human Institute (VPHi), and is further endorsed by different international Research societies, Networks of Excellence and Project consortia. It is a five-days event that aims to provide early researchers, junior engineers and medical doctors with a complete overview of state-of-the-art VPH research, following an integrated pipeline, from basic science and clinical needs to model application.

This 4th edition will focus on Machine Learning and Mechanistic Modelling and will welcome a total of 15 international speakers who will share their research experience related with the following topics:

• 10 June 2019: Basic Science, clinical understanding, and need for in silico modelling 
• 11 June 2019: Data acquisition, processing, and quantification for modelling
• 12 June 2019: Organ, cell and molecular models
• 13 June 2019: Implementation, validation and coupling of models
• 14 June 2019: Application: Understanding simulation outcomes, technological transfer, decision and therapy support

The talks will be completed by 14 hours of guided practical training in any of the following hands-on:

1. Mechanistic multiscale cartilage modelling from body motion to tissue turnover
2. Machine learning and mechanistic tissue modelling for image-guided brain surgery
3. Computational anatomy: Morphological metrics, smart image segmentation, patient-specific modelling & disease signatures
4. Machine learning for arrhythmia detection in electrocardiography

The program further includes poster sessions, awards, a cardiopulmonary resuscitation workshop, and social activities.
